A Moment of Reflection for America's 250
I am an American History nerd, BIG TIME.
I’m not actually a historian (unless you call a Geologist a BIG-historian), but I think I fit neatly into the box “armchair historian,” and it is something I am proud of.
Being a man of that type of self-education, there are moments and people in America’s history that are truly inspiring; there are also moments, events, and figures that are equally, if not more heartbreaking. More often than not, those same examples can paradoxically inhabit both ends of that spectrum comfortably.
How do we reconcile this? I will get into the details of a view I share with others, and I hope to convert many more. Not only should we, but we must recognize the beauty, the ugliness, the opportunity, and the futility of American History in order to keep move forward.
